Tom Sam Salad By Dr. Sonia Goel

 Som Tam Salad

Hey, My dear Readers!!

Today I am here with another amazing salad recipe. And this time it’s a Thai Salad. Thai cuisine is one of the very popular cuisines around the world not only because it’s delicious, it is also healthy and have lots of the nutritional value in them.

And of the cuisine, the really popular dishes that people always order when they go to restaurants is ‘Thai Papaya Salad’ or ‘Som Tam Salad’.

This is a Green Papaya Salad and this is rich in nutrients, so let's talk about Papaya. This fruit is originated from Southern Mexico, thousand years ago during the Incan Civilization

But these are now grown all over the world in Tropical Countries. Green papaya contains more ‘Live’ enzymes than the ripe version of the fruit. These enzymes include Papain and Chymopapain and they help to break down foods like carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Therefore, they can help you to lose weight and boost your digestive system.

These enzymes have the power to regulate irritable bowel syndrome and constipation. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce heat allergies and acute skin problems. This fruit contains an ample amount of Vitamin A, C, E, folate and pantothenic acid. It also contains minerals like magnesium, copper, and potassium.

If you include raw papaya in your diet then your insulin synthesis will increase and your blood sugar level will automatically get regulated. That’s why it is very beneficial for people who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes.

Vitamins in Raw Papaya oxidizes the cholesterol and thus it prevents heart disease.  So, now you have an idea that it is a very very important element to include in your diet.

So, enough with the health facts, let’s move on to the ingredients I used for making this recipe.

Ingredients I used are:
  • One Large raw Papaya (grated)
  • Half a cup of roasted peanuts
  • Tamarind Pulp
  • Soya Sauce
  • Rock Salt
  • Lemongrass
  • Garlic paste

At first grate, the raw papaya with Grating Tool and put it aside. Add the Lemongrasssoya sauce, garlic paste and tamarind pulp over the grated papaya and stir it properly until all the ingredients are mixed properly.  Now add the rock salt according to the taste and stair again. Lastly, sprinkle the crushed roasted peanuts over the mixture.

And that’s it. Your Som Tam Salad is ready to eat. I am sure you will like the healthy savory delight of Thai cuisine

And that’s all. I hope you like my salad recipe. Hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I did.
